A small gift for the holiday season šŸ

Hey friends,

You may recall that I recently ran a sale on my book, The Inner Compass. The paperback was discounted down from $14.99 to just $9.99 (33% off), and that discount period came to a close.

Well, for reasons I don’t fully understand, Amazon has discounted it again to $9.99! To be clear, this is Amazon’s doing and not mine, which I confirmed with them as well. It turns out that Amazon will play with prices based on a book’s performance to better position it for readers, and will do so for a limited time.

This discount won't last long, so if you wanted to gift this book to someone that could use a boost of encouragement in their lives, this would be an ideal time to get it. The book’s compact size and ease of readability will make it a great gift for the holidays, and will be light on your wallet as well:

One of the joys of releasing this book is seeing it being gifted to others. Here’s Nick showing me a screenshot of his inbox after gifting 10+ copies to people:

And here’s Dee sharing a picture of her own gift copies:

And here’s Vineesh messaging me with his stack after the book’s release in India:

As an author, the greatest signal of your book’s impact is word-of-mouth, and gifting is the ultimate embodiment of that. So if you’ve been impacted by the book and want to share that impact with others, I encourage you to grab the book at this discounted price today.

As a reminder, if you get the book, send me your order receipt and I’ll send you a bonus booklet called ā€œA Month of Reflectionsā€. These are 30 carefully selected meditations that can serve as a companion to your contemplative practice. I’ve sent this to many readers and they’ve personally expressed how helpful it's been in their own reflective journeys.

As a sneak peek, here’s one of my favorite meditations from it:

Day 17: Play the Long Game

Self-doubt lives solely in the now; it knows nothing more than what can be seen and experienced at this precise moment. It can't envision any sort of future where results grow over time, where your confidence builds with each thing you make, and where your insecurities soften as you progress onward.

When you're doing meaningful work, you must be able to trade short-term disappointment for long-term progress. While it may seem irrational to continue pursuing this path today, everything will only make sense when enough time has elapsed so you can see how far you've traveled.

Interestingly enough, that describes how I’m feeling about this book. I wrote it last year when I was in a deep period of doubt, and it’s only now where I can see how far I’ve traveled as a result of it.

Similarly, perhaps reading The Inner Compass can act as a starting point for a loved one’s contemplative journey. Or maybe it could act as an affirmation of your own. Regardless of whether you get it as a gift for yourself or others, this would be a great time to fulfill that curiosity to see where it may take you.

As I’ve noted in prior newsletters, there are many translations of the book coming, with the most recent deal being with Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial for a Spanish translation. I believe that a Hindi translation will be published by Bloomsbury around Jan or Feb 2026, which makes it the earliest one. I plan on creating a resource that shows all the foreign deals / translations in the near future for international readers.

But in the meantime, you can enjoy the original English edition at a discounted price today. Needless to say, thanks for all your support over the past few months. Releasing this book has been one of the highlights of my journey as a writer, and it’s all thanks to you. I am so grateful for that.

Hey friends, Happy lunar new year! I hope you're having a festive week, wherever you are in the world. To celebrate, I have a new post to share today on how writing can change your life =). But first, 2 announcements: (1) Enrollment for my flagship course, Thinking In Stories, is now open. There are many courses out there on writing and content creation, but few on mastering the skill of storytelling. This is interesting because storytelling drives everything. Want to persuade people at work?...

Hey friends, 2026 just started, but so much has already happened. One of the biggest developments has been in AI, where tools like Claude Code and Codex are rapidly changing the landscape of knowledge work. People are seeing how the skills that were once reserved for human minds can be executed in a fraction of the time, at a fraction of the cost. So this begs the question... Is there a creative skill that can still act as a moat for the human mind? Fortunately, the answer is yes, and is...

the courage to trust yourself

Hey friends, Hope you’re having a great start to the year. I’m in Toronto for the next week, where -15 °C days are a regular occurrence. Despite the blistering cold, there’s something nice about the quiet mornings that accompany the rhythm of heavy snowfall. It puts you in a reflective yet focused mood, which is the space I find myself in now. Speaking of which, I recently sent out an email sharing that I’ve started a Substack newsletter. It’s quite possible that many of you didn’t see that...
